TURNING ON THE LIGHTS
The Napa Valley Photographic Society (NVPS) organizes exhibits, workshops, field trips and special events.

The group's intent is to perfect our skills and learn from one
another, so we prefer to have our images "critiqued" rather than judged.
ABOUT NVPS
The general membership meets once a month* at 7 p.m. except for May and December. NVPS members meetings feature guest speakers who provide a look at his or her own work and evaluate submitted images. Each guest speaker is treated to dinner prior to the monthly members' meeting.

*Dues are $50 annually and payable at the beginning of the fiscal year, July 1st.  A student membership is $25 annually.

Payments can be mailed to Napa Valley Photographic Society, P.O. Box 5914, Napa CA 94581; or taken to a members meeting and given to NVPS president, Phil Venable, or NVPS treasurer, Kim Marhan.

Make checks payable to Napa Valley Photographic Society. NVPS is also acceptable.

*Also please note that if you want to submit images to be critiqued during upcoming general meetings at the Napa Senior Activity Center, dues must have reached treasurer Kim Marhan.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

June brings the NVPS to a new fiscal year. This month we will hold elections at our June 22 meeting. Think about the future of the club and who you might want to see running the club. Maybe it’s YOU. The club runs on volunteers and we still need members to step up and help the club out. Kim is stepping down as Treasurer. Fred Goldman has offered to run for the position, as Treasurer is an elected position. The following positions I will discuss are appointed positions. We need a presentation chair as Mitchell needs a break from finding presenters for our meetings. Mitchell also updates our website, which he would prefer to do. We need an exhibit chair. That position has been filled by board members who already have other duties. We need a hospitality chair to organize our social events, which has also been filled by board members. We would also like someone to organize workshops and field trips, which currently is my job, in addition to running the club. This will also be my last year as President. Come June of 2027, I will step down and someone will have to fill the void. Start thinking if this will be the job for you. Taking one of the vacant board positions will help you familiarize yourself with club operations.

It’s dues paying time as well. Dues are what keeps our club running. For $50 per year, you get 10 meetings with a presentation at nearly all 10 meeting, plus two club social events. All this and the ability to show your work to the public, and potentially sell your work also. $50 per year is a bargain!!

Coming up in the next few months are two shows. The first is our Art in the Library show at the Napa County Library. That show runs through July and August, with a reception on July 10, from 6:15 to 7:30. Mark your calendars! The second show is at the Napa Town and Country Fair which runs Aug 6-9. We will need volunteers to help staff our booth, in addition to having a large exhibit, we need a minimum of 2 members at all times in the booth, with the exception for breaks. A schedule will be sent out for you to sign up on.

November is a particularly bad time to find speakers for the meeting as it is usually the same week as Thanksgiving. So this year I decided to try something different. Most of us got into photography during the era of film, and stopped using film when digital photography became a thing. A lot of us still have a film camera lying around gathering dust. So for the November meeting we are going to show photos shot with film. Now I realize there are a few folks who have never shoot with film. I won!
