W e l c o m e !
The Napa Valley Photographic Society (NVPS) organizes exhibits, workshops, field trips and special events.
The group's intent is to perfect our skills and learn from one another, so we prefer to have our images "critiqued" rather than judged.
Most months we invite guest speakers to evaluate our images. We treat each guest speaker to a fine Napa dinner prior to the monthly members' meeting.
The general membership meets once a month* at 7 p.m. except for May and December. Dues are $45 annually and due at the beginning of the fiscal year, July 1. (See the CONTACTS/MEMBERSHIP page.) A new instituted student membership is $25 annually.

online members meetings*

Although in-person membership meetings have been cancelled in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, NVPS has been holding remote general meetings using Zoom video conferencing software.
* Unfortunately the December virtual holiday meeting via Zoom was cancelled but holiday-themed images were welcomed and the imaginative submissions are featured on the Monthly Critiqued Images page. See the News, President's Message page for the top three prize winners.

SOMETHING NEW
In addition, NVPS is asking members submitting images for monthly critiques to title each submission. The practice is also helpful when selecting titles for photographs entered in shows or exhibits. Club treasurer Irena Miles has located two helpful articles on what to consider when choosing a title. These can be found on the TECH TIPS page.

Historical Society's call for submissions for 2021
"The Presence of the Past' photo competition
"The Presence of the Past' photo competition
The Napa County Historical Society has put out a call for submissions for its The Presence of the Past Photography Competition for 2021. The submission deadline is March 21.
This is the first of what the historical society hopes will become a regular feature of Then & Now photo competition exhibits. This year 18 historic landmarks from throughout Napa County in nine categories have been selected. Each category has historic images for two landmark buildings. The challenge for modern photographers will be to capture the aesthetics of a chosen landmark as it exists or does not exist today.
Categories include bridges, businesses, churches, hospitals, homes, hotels, resorts, schools and wineries.
The guidelines for submission are available online at napahistory.org/2021-photography-competition and pertain to both the Senior and Junior divisions.
Participants may submit up to four modern images for the show.
All submissions will be juried and selected images will be mounted and hung alongside the historic images in the Jess Doud Gallery for the duration of the exhibit. The judging rubric, which applies to both Senior and Junior divisions, is available online.
Interested photographers should register on the Napa County Historical Society website: napahistory.org/2021-photography-competition/

During the months you've been sheltering in place we hope you've been photographing! Visit (and contribute to) the MEMBERS CHOICE page for an interim feature -- lockdown projects as well as NVPS members' monthly selections of reworked or newest images -- some with a theme, others not -- in lieu of the monthly critiqued images until Zoom meetings begin. Additional details on the page.
And please take a look at the newest feature, A Walk Through the Neighborhood, on the PHOTO OPS, WORKSHOPS, FIELD TRIPS & MEET-UPS page. If you have images to contribute from walks you've taken since the sheltering-at-home directive, you'll also find information on how to size them and where they should be sent.
EXTRA: Our January guest presenter Tim Carl's time lapse video of the October, 2019 Kincade fire as it neared Calistoga can be viewed by going to the GUEST SPEAKERS page and scrolling to the January 2020 entry.
