The Art of Combatting Pollution
____________________________________________
'I took these photos in SoCal in April. They are from the 'Washed Ashore to Save the Sea' exhibit at the South Coast Botanic Garden on the Palos Verdes peninsula.
As the Washed Ashore team explains it, "Washed Ashore - Art to Save the Sea is a non-profit organization committed to combating plastic pollution through the art and education. The 16 sculptures on exhibit, which primarily depict sea creatures, were built by the organization and its volunteers to inspire and spark positive changes in consumer habits. The garden, was built atop a sanitary landfill, and has been proof for the past 60-plus years that beautiful things can come from trashy pasts. With this exhibit, the group further explores the concept, as well as the education behind what we can ALL do to limit waste, particularly our single-plastic use."
I opted for the non-stop shuttle tour with our guide, Sage -- a lover of puns and defender of the Garden, who paused long enough so we could take better photos. At the end of the tour we all got a really cool reusable water bottle.
I couldn't select all the photos I took. Many of what I selected seem to be more of creatures who feed on sea creatures, and therefore are also affected by the plastic pollution.'
